Did you remember when the Yarra use to glisten?

I love rivers. I was sitting along the Yarra this afternoon watching dragonboat training. There was a lady on a speedboat shouting instructions to the rowers as they raced down the river. The very dirty river, that is…

I wonder how beautiful and majestic some rivers were before pollution and sewage had its way. The mekong river in Cambodia is in the same state, only slightly worst, with rubbish piling on its banks and reports of corpses drifting to shore ever so often.

I wonder how much of it glistened like the water running through the Cameron Highlands and what the early settlers thought when they first set their eyes upon it. It’s a whole different scene now. There’s a school of spit bobbing on the surface below me.

People still come to the riverside though, because it brings with it an enormous amount of calm and peace, and that’s useful in a busy buzzing urban settlement.

One can always exercise a bit of imagination to get the scene they want…..

Here’s some pictures from the Cameron Highlands for your viewing pleasure.
It’s a very beautiful place! :)

These people have chosen to live a very simple life away from the chaotic nature of the world.

The largest flower in the world – the Rafflesia arnoldii. It’s bud is very hard and strong and it grows in the middle of the Cameron Highland jungle.

Luckily, Earth still has many places which are lush and green :)
