a bit of summer in the square

December 2, 2008

I’m currently in Federation Square right now, waiting to attend the MMYN meeting nearby.

There are more people than usual mulling around.

The homeless world cup is on and the national anthems are currently being played. They set up the court in the middle of Fed Square- melburbians are quite innovative.

On Sunday, we had the launch of the “Hidden Treasure: Multicultural Voices of Melbourne” Anthology.

It was excellent!  There was singing, dancing, and poetry recitals.

The venue was perfect! Special thanks to the Immigration Museum for providing this.

I did a performance, combining traditional dance with poetry. It went well. It’s always good to experiment with combining different artforms. Susanna and Jaffyz did a nuiean cultural dance.

George Lekakis made the most wonderful launch speech. I wish I had the transcript! But it was very good and he is extremely well-spoken.

Hong Lim – the member of parliament for where I live (who is very supportive of events that promote multiculturalism) came along to support the event. It’s lovely to see representatives supporting their constituencies.

Here are some pictures preceding, during and after the launch.
